Let’s be honest.

Most people don’t exactly wake up excited for their head shot session. Maybe you're not sure what to wear, or you're worried your hair won't cooperate, or maybe just maybe you've been using that same awkward cropped vacation selfie on LinkedIn for the last four years.

Whether you're gearing up for a scheduled shoot or trying to convince your boss to upgrade those outdated company photos, you’ve landed in the right place.

Because at Snap Shot Fotos, we make head shots simple, polished, and yes actually enjoyable.

Before You Step in Front of the Camera, Read This:We’ve taken thousands of photos over the years, and trust us: the smallest tweaks make the biggest difference. So whether you’re getting your head shot taken with us (hey there 👋) or just looking to show up confidently, here are 10 tips that will help you look your best.

Tips to Take Your Best Photo

1. Avoid Last-Minute Haircuts

Schedule haircuts or color treatments at least 5–7 days before your session. This gives your style time to settle and look more natural on camera.

2. Keep It Simple with Makeup

If you wear makeup, go for a clean, polished look—matte over shiny, and nothing too heavy. Natural tones photograph best.

3. Get a Good Night’s Sleep

You’ll look more refreshed and alert if you’re well-rested. Tired eyes can show up more than you think in high-resolution images.

4. Stay Hydrated

Drink plenty of water the day before and day of your session. Hydrated skin looks healthier and more vibrant in photos.

5. Avoid New Skincare Products

Don’t try anything new (like peels or facials) within a few days of your head shot. You want to avoid redness or unexpected breakouts.

6. Choose Flattering, Solid Colors

Stick with solid, neutral, or jewel-tone colors—avoid busy patterns, logos, or bright whites unless you're layering with a blazer. Bring a couple of options if you're unsure.

7. Groom Facial Hair Carefully

Shave or trim facial hair the night before to avoid irritation or redness. If you’re keeping facial hair, make sure it’s well-groomed.

8. Bring Lip Balm or Powder

For quick touch-ups—especially helpful if you're prone to shiny skin or dry lips under lighting.

9. Relax Your Shoulders

Tension shows in photos. Take a deep breath, drop your shoulders, and let your natural posture come through.

10. Trust the Process

We’ll guide you through everything—from posing to expressions. All you need to do is show up, and we’ll take care of the rest.
